HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024-07-24 - Library Advisory Board Stephenville Public Library Advisory Board Meeting July 24, 2024 Minutes Members: Jennie Shafer Katy Eichenberg Katherine Smith, Chair Joe Garcia Ex-Officio members Jorge Moreno Mary Meredith, Library Director Kat Quinnell, Secretary Daron Trussell, Parks and Leisure Services Director Call to order. Chair called the meeting to order in the Stephenville Public Library (SPL) at 5:02pm. Handouts were the Agenda, May Minutes, SPL Monthly report, Internet & Computer Usage Policy, and possible Lego purchases. I. Attendance. Members present were Eichenberg, Moreno, Quinnell, Shafer, Smith, and Meredith. Members not in attendance were Garcia and Trussell. II. New Member Introductions. No new members to introduce. The Stephenville Nominating Committee is considering 2 new candidates for joining this board. We may have 1 new member at the next meeting. III. Approval of Minutes – May 8, 2024. a. Daron’s name on page two will be changed to a “o” instead of an “I”. b. Moreno moved to accept the minutes with the amendments, it was seconded by Shafer and passed by unanimous consent. IV. Library Manager Report: Director, Mary Meredith a. Boo for Books: Eichenberg reports, there is a new HEB manager (Tori) who served the library where she lived; she is help Smith fill out the form and send it to HQ to approve the book donation; Cody (the business manager) has the form for Smith to pick up. It needs to be filled out and returned. Smith needs a count of how many books we will need and what types; Meredith indicated picture books for 3-7, baby board books and chapter books for teens. Meredith will look through last years hand outs and get a number to request from HEB. Shafer asked about Frames Etc.; Eichenberg and Meredith usually pay and Frames matches their funds; they will pull and Meredith picks up. b. New Internet use policy: reviewed and made suggestions for edits. c. Summer Reading: 263 reading logs picked up; SPL won the Best of Erath Summer program for kids; Statistics for June: 4033 visits this summer; toddler time has 10-15 kids per event; there is an issue with no shows so asked for suggestions. Quinnell mentioned a free electronic option like Eventbrite, Shafer mentioned asking for emails to do reminders after signing up. Shafer mentioned possibly having QR codes to sign up for other reading programs to assist with food insecurity and motivation. d. Lego club: Skylar was researching and they settled on Thursdays from 6-7pm. They are needing to purchase some beginning materials which was requested in next years budget (Oct). The Lego club is considering take home kits. Smith told Meredith to put it th in writing and the 20 Century Club can give money this year to move forward; they set aside $1000 annually for the library; Shafer suggested lego prompt cards for when the primary lead isn’t available, the prompt cards will make leading the club easier; Shafer agreed to make some. e. Lauren Pearson with Tarleton received a grant and put together activity bags for check out. They consist of a book, game, puzzle and other small activities. They are themed. Still need to be cataloged and not sure how to advertise availability. Shafer suggested poster rack or posting on the desk to let patrons know they are available. f. Request for Reconsideration form: no update from Daron g. Robo Club: Shafer needs the number for Lisa LaTouche to explore interest. It would be possible to get school honors students involved since they need hours over the summer. Citizens General Discussions: A call was made for citizens to bring commentary to the board. No commentary was given. Adjournment. Motion to adjourn made by Shafer and seconded by Moreno. Meeting adjourned at 5:40pm Next meeting: Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at 5pm in the SPL.
