Call to Order. Chair, Kate Barton, called the meeting to order in the Stephenville Public Library (SPL). Handouts were the Agenda, the April Minutes, the April Calendar, the Summer Reading Program Flyer, the SPL Monthly report, “Keeping Your Kids Safe Online” flyer, “Happy Bear” Program information sheet, Library Accreditation information, and the Revised Request for Reconsideration of Library Materials. The updated Agenda was approved with the motion from Jennie Shafer and the second from Katherine Quinnell. II. Roll Call. Noted above. III. Approval of April 2023 Minutes. The minutes as distributed were approved with one correction, Katherine Quinnell was absent. The motion was made by Jennie Shafer and the second by Katy Eichenberg. IV. Reports. Director, Mary Meredith. Summer Reading Program. It was well-attended with 177 children completing it. Several events had wait lists but staff worked so that everyone was able to attend. Boo for Books. Monday, October 30th. The grant request has been submitted to HEB. Mary has a reserve of books and has enough committed for this year. (She sent an email on 9/19 that the event has been moved to the City Park). Discussion followed for options to acquire books for next year. The current HEB grant will no longer be available, although there may be grant money available. Library Accreditation. Mary presented the material on the Benefits of Accreditation and noted that it requires minimum funding of $260,266.67 for next year. Friends of the SPL Open House. It has been moved to the fall but no specific date has been set. Paluxy River Children’s Advocacy Center. Their Keeping your Kids Safe Online program is scheduled at the Library th on July 27 for parents and other caregivers. Mary is considering bringing in the Happy Bear skit for children in pre- kindergarten through first grade and asked for feedback. V. Unfinished Business Revised Request for Reconsideration of Library Materials Form. Mary Meredith distributed copies of the current version but noted that Daron Trussell, Director of Parks and Leisure Services, has not signed off on it. Mary agreed to meet with him to get an update. Book Considerations. Two of the books have been removed from circulation but all others were returned to the shelves. Discussion followed on the concern that the SPL Board has not been included in this process as was indicated. Other Unfinished Business. None. VI. Adjournment. The meeting was adjourned with the motion made by Jennie Shafer and the second by Katherine Quinnell The next meeting is scheduled for October 18, 2023 at 5 pm in the Library.
